Welcome to Sicily! Arrive in Palermo, the energetic capital of Sicily, and transfer to your hotel. The rest of the day is at leisure to rest and relax before tonight's briefing by your Tour Manager on the exciting tour that awaits you, a Welcome Dinner with the group follows

DAY 3, Monday - Monreale Cathedral, Tour Palermo's Old City
Travel to the hilltop town of Monreale to visit the Norman Cathedral, an architectural masterpiece, with its interior of glittering 12th century Byzantine mosaics. Return to Palermo for a tour of the ancient Old City with its incredible mix of architectural styles, including its magnificent Cathedral. In the afternoon, discover Palermo on your own with its bustling street markets, winding alleyways and colorful back streets. Or join the optional tour to the charming seaside town of Cefalu, distinguished by its medieval settings. Here, see the magnificent Piazza del Duomo and the delightful Fisherman's Village nestled on one of Sicily's most beautiful sand beaches. Stroll the picturesque lanes in the historical center before returning to Palermo

DAY 4, Tuesday - Erice, Farm Lunch
Drive the winding roads to mountaintop Erice, a wonderfully preserved medieval town with breathtaking views and a great historical presence. Walk along the cobbled streets lined with superb examples of Gothic, Baroque and Renaissance architecture. Savor the island's landmark windmills and salt mines, before reaching a local farm. Your lunch will feature some of the area's local delicacies, including extra virgin olive oil and wine. Arrive in Agrigento and enjoy the remainder of the day at leisure. DAY 5, Wednesday - Tour Agrigento's Valley of the Temples
Today, discover Agrigento's celebrated Valley of the Temples, the largest and best preserved temple ruins outside of mainland Greece. Tour this magnificent archaeological park that consists of eight Greek temples, built between 430 and 510 B.C., all majestically positioned in the same area on rocky crests south of modern day Agrigento. Indeed, it is an amazing sight to behold! After lunch, travel to the coastal town of Giardini Naxos. Evening is at leisure in this resort town

DAY 6, Thursday - Etna and Taormina
Begin the day with a visit to the lava-crusted slopes of Mt. Etna, which stands 11,000 feet tall, dominates the scenery, and is the most active volcano in Europe! Ascend the Mount to reach the Silvestri Craters; step carefully on the varied layers of lava which have solidified over the centuries. Learn about Etna's impact on the surrounding area and its unique geology before returning to Taormina. In the afternoon, a panoramic tour of the city that includes the massive Greek Theater, one of the largest in Sicily, from where you can enjoy remarkable panoramas of the city and countryside. The rest of the day is at leisure in the upper town of Taormina to enjoy all of the many delights in this marvelous city. Shop to your heart's content at some of the chicest boutiques in Italy, enjoy an aperitif overlooking the Bay of Naxos, or indulge in some of Italy's most delectable food

DAY 7, Friday - Full Day in Giardini Naxos
Full day at leisure in Giardini Naxos or, join the not to be missed optional tour to Siracusa. Here you can step back in time to the bygone era of Greek Sicily, and explore the birthplace of Archimedes. Visit Neapolis Archaeological Park, the Greek Theatre, the remains of Roman Amphitheater and the "Ear of Dionysius," an awe-inspiring artificial limestone cave renowned for its outstanding acoustics. Then, admire its old quarter, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, located on the island of Ortygia before returning to Taormina. Dinner tonight at the hotel

DAY 9, Sunday - Tour Ancient Rome
The historic tour of ancient Rome begins at the legendary Roman Forum, the central area of the city from which ancient Rome developed. Next, view the triumphal Arch of Constantine, erected by the Roman Senate to commemorate Constantine’s tenth year of leadership over the Eternal City. On to the mighty Colosseum, the largest amphitheater built in the Roman Empire that seated over 50,000, where gladiator contests and public events were attended by the rich, the poor and by the Emperor himself. Discover the delights of Rome this afternoon on your own. Stop at a local café for lunch and just people-watch, or savor a cappuccino, indulge in a delectable gelato or try an authentic Italian pizza

DAY 10, Monday - Vatican Museum and Michelangelo’s Sistine Chapel
Today visit the Vatican Museums and Michelangelo's masterpiece, the Sistine Chapel. Stroll through one of the most important art collections of the world. Admire the Gallery of Tapestries and the Geographical Maps before arriving at the Sistine Chapel, with its great frescoes by Michelangelo. Continue to St. Peter's Square, passing Bernini's famous colonnade to view St. Peter's Basilica,* built on the burial site of Saint Peter, with the most famous Michelangelo’s Pieta. Enjoy the afternoon at leisure or, join the optional walking tour of the Eternal City’s grand piazzas that includes the Spanish Steps, the legendary Trevi Fountain, the Pantheon, and the baroque Piazza Navona. DAY 11, Tuesday - Medieval Assisi to Florence
Depart Rome to the small medieval town of Assisi perched high on a hill in the Umbria region, with its Roman ruins, winding medieval streets and sacred shrines. Assisi is best known as the birthplace of St. Francis of Assisi - patron saint of Italy. Its main attraction is the 13th-century Basilica di San Francesco, one of the artistic highlights of medieval Europe which contains the sacred relics of St. Francis and Giotto's astonishing frescoes. The town of Assisi has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its significant art and architecture. Afterwards, continue to the lively Renaissance city of Florence, with its priceless art and architecture for overnight

DAY 12, Wednesday - Tour of Florence
Today's tour of Florence begins with a visit to the Accademia of Fine Arts, where Michelangelo's David is housed; stand in awe of this glorious work of art. Walk to the magnificent Duomo, celebrated for its magnificent dome designed by Brunelleschi, and view the Baptistery's renowned "Gates of Paradise" by Ghiberti. Continue on a walk through the open-air museum at Signoria Square, ending at the splendid Ponte Vecchio, also known as the "Old Bridge". Florence is indeed the center of the world’s finest art and architecture. Enjoy the afternoon at leisure in this spectacular Renaissance city, or participate in the optional guided tour of the Uffizi Gallery. Tonight, a delightful evening that begins with a ride through the Tuscan hills to a lovely restaurant where a sumptuous Tuscan dinner is served along with unlimited wine and entertainment

DAY 13, Thursday - Pisa Sightseeing En Route to Venice
Depart Florence, traveling through the stunning golden landscape of Tuscany, dotted with olive and fig trees, to Pisa where we view the famous Piazza dei Miracoli with its Leaning Tower, one of the most instantly recognizable structures on earth. The monuments on the extraordinary Piazza dei Miracoli create a unique architectural blend of Romanesque and Gothic styles. Then, visit a traditional Tuscan farm in the countryside for wine tasting coupled with delectable local specialties before continuing to magical Venice for overnight

DAY 14, Friday - Boat Ride to Murano, Tour of Venice
The discovery of Venice begins with a boat ride to the Island of Murano, known for its artistic and colorful Murano glassware. While here enjoy a visit to one of the factories to witness the art of glass blowing. Afterward, on to St. Mark's Square where you begin the guided walking tour of this romantic city. View the Golden Basilica of San Marco, built over several centuries in a fusion of Byzantine, Roman and Venetian architecture. See the Bridge of Sighs, created at the beginning of the 17th century to serve as a link between the prisons and the inquisition rooms of Doge’s Palace. Then, continue to visit the pink marble Doge's Palace, the official residence of the Venetian ruler; its facade is highlighted by a massive late-Gothic gate, known as the Porta della Carta. The rest of the day is yours to explore Venice independently, or participate in this afternoon's optional Gondola Ride with music - it's definitely one of the highlights of any Italian holiday
