DAY 3: Hong Kong, Half Day Kowloon Cultural Tour
We will start with a visit to the Nan Lian Garden, built in the ancient style of Tang Dynasty (618 AD to 907 AD). After admiring the perfectly-manicured hills fountains and trees, we will walk over to the nearby Chi Lin Nunnery.
This Buddhist monastic complex is modeled on traditional Chinese heavy timber structures, also in the style of the Tang Dynasty, one of the most brilliant periods in Chinese cultural history. Originally built in 1934 and rebuilt in 1990, this amazing place was built without the use of a single iron nail.
We will carry on to the Bird Market, a charming Chinese-style garden that is the favoured gathering place of Hong Kongs songbird owners, who carry their beloved pets around in intricately carved cages.
Then, take a walk along Flowers Street, an amazing jungle of exotic blossoms, luck-bringing houseplants and sweet scents to be found in more than 50 shops. Enjoy a walk around the market admiring the huge variety of flowers and plants for sale.
Finally we will visit Nathan Road, the main thoroughfare in Kowloon, lined with shops, restaurants and plenty of tourists. This stretch of road was known as the Golden Mile in the post-World War II years, a name that is now rarely used. ( B ) |
