Bryggen in Norway

The oldest section of the wharf of Bergen, situated in the Western section of Norway, named Bryggen, represents the only remaining part of the once flourishing port that used to serve as an important transit point for ships for more than 200 years; from the 14th till the 16th century.

Today, around 62 marvelously colored building are the only remaining parts of this historical port. Bryggen was included in the World Heritage Sites of the UNESCO in 1979. It is also one of the major highlights included in several travel packages to Norway.

The occurrence of several fires in various periods of history resulted in the destroying of almost all the magnificently colored establishments of Bryggen. The area tourists who travel to Norway was largely rebuilt using the traditional methods and materials.
