The Derinkuyu underground city consists of several levels which were all established under the ground. Located around central Turkey, in the region of Nevºehir, the underground city of Derinkuyu is more than 60 meters deep inside the ground. This is why it impresses many tourists who travel to Turkey. Historians believe that Derinkuyu Underground City, the same as many other underground establishments in the region of Cappadocia, was founded around the 7th or the 8th centuries BC. They were simple one-level homes. However, with time passing by, the inhabitants began adding a level after the other. This distinctive historical site welcomes a large number of vacationers who enjoy their holidays in Turkey. The Derinkuyu Underground City can host more than 20 thousand people and it hosts all what these people need to survive for days. These include many chapels, storage rooms, and even a church at the fifth level underground. A visit to this matchless underground city is included in almost all travel packages to Turkey.
