Kuelap in Peru

Kuelap is one of the most interesting ancient sites in Peru. Situated in the mountains in the Southern section of the Amazon, this fortified human settlements were constructed as early as the 6th century. Today, a visit to Kuélap is recommended to any tourists spending their vacations in Peru.

For the period when it was constructed, Kuélap is considered a large settlement that is around 600 meters long and more than 110 meters wide. The walls of the settlement are also impressive being 20 meters in height made of limestone.

In fact, there are more than 550 various establishments inside Kuélap. However, only small ruins remain but they are quite impressive. The most interesting buildings of Kuélap include El Tintero, many reliefs, and several sections of the walls.
