The Hawa Mahal in Jaipur

As one of the three cities that form the Golden Triangle of India, together with Delhi and Agra, Jaipur enjoys hosting several impressive monuments and historical sites. A visit to Jaipur is commonly included in many travel packages to India.

Among the most significant landmarks of Jaipur is surely the Hawa Mahal. The palace of the wind, as translated into English, was built at the end of the 18th century. Featured with its layout of a pyramid with five floors, the palace has a height of 15 meters.

The Hawa Mahal got its name from its distinctive design that allows wind to enter all the levels and sections of the building. As one of the wonderful constructions of the 18th and 19th centuries, the palace used to serve as the residence of many royal family members and nobles.

A large number of windows, more than 900, ornament the façade of the Hawa Mahal. The architecture of the palace was designed with this huge number of small windows to allow women to view the world outside the palace without being noticed. The palace is one of the notable historical sites that tourists who travel to India should never miss.
