The Lion Monument in Switzerland

The Loin Monument is a rock carved situated in the city of Lucerne. This impressive monument was constructed to commemorate the Swiss soldiers who were massacred during the French revolution. Many travel packages to Switzerland include a visit to the small garden where the Lion Monument was created.

Sculptured by Lukas Ahorn in 1820, the Lion Monument took more than a year to be completed, according to historical records. The monument became a romantic place where many travelers from all over the world, who enjoy their holidays in Switzerland, gather and admire this distinctive monument.

The Lion Monument was carved in the shape of a lion fighting death to represent the courage of the Swiss guards, around 1000, who tried to defend the royal family during the French revolution at the end of the 18th century.
