The Lom Stave Church in Norway

The Lom Church in Norway, is the largest and perhaps the most impressive in the whole nation. Constructed around the middle of the 12th century, the most ancient sections of the church were erected following the Romanesque approach of building. Today, the church is one of the popular touristic attractions included in many travel packages in Norway.

There are a couple of reasons why the Lom Church had this large surface area specially that it was built in the Middle Ages. The city of Lom was an important resting point for pilgrims. This is why the church was enlarged in many periods of time. Tourists who visit Norway are usually impressed with the size and the decorations of the Church of Lom.

The Church of Lom also hosts the biggest collection of paintings and drawings in comparison with all the other historical Christian establishments in Norway. There were thousands of coins and love notes discovered in an archeological missions carried out in the church as well during the end of the 18th century.
