The Melk Abbey in Austria

The Melk Abbey is a distinctive monastery located on a high cliff above the city of Melk. This distinctive monuments hosts the dead bodies of several members of the very first family that ruled over the country.

This marvelously designed abbey was built at the end of the 11th century by monks from the famous at the time Lambach Monastrey. Today, it is one of the most interesting places to explore during a tour to Austria.

Nevertheless, this magnificent structure we view today dates to the first part of the 18th century. Famous for its numerous rooms and chambers, the Melk Abbey has two distinctive towers at its entrance and quite a unique location on top of a hill.
