Among the most interesting places to explore during a visit to Romania, there are the Wooden churches of Maramureș. Most of these churches are Orthodox, with a little number of Catholic as well. These distinctively built out of wood churches were consturcted in the period between the 17th and the 19th centuries. These magnificent structures were the result of the dietician of the Catholic authorities at the 17th century prohibiting the consturction of stone churches. The most interesting among the Wooden churches of Maramureș include the Budești Josani church, the Hărnicești church, the Ieud Șes church, the Bârsana church, and many more.
